During our session on Monday 16th of January, we had visited the Tate modern house, this is an exhibition house that a wide range of art including different types of art galleries, exhibitions and many more. Our task was to find a piece of art that we find interesting for any weather personal or something that we can relate to.

Leonardo Drew, Number 185

Looking across through multiple piece I had then went to the art floor in which had contained materials and objects devised by artist. I had came across a piece Louise Nevelson and Leonardo Drew. Both artist had lived in an apartment in New York during the 1950’s in which they collected any objects and scraps of items from the street of New York. They both then stored this into a small box left it in the corner of their room. They had then used these parts to create a their own wall and painted it black. This was very interesting to me as the both Louise and Leonardo had literally took products of their environment to create a new dimension and life as the wall represented a new way of life. Adding on to this point New York in the 1950’s was a very rough and dangerous environment and therefore the meaning and thought that had gone into this piece of work must of been very impactful for them.

After our session at the Tate modern we had then began a journey from the Tate Modern to Canary Wharf which was a one hour and twenty minute walk. Along this walk we looked the different architecture styles of different buildings, discussed the pricing but the reasons of why people purchase the properties and how this affects London’s future landscapes. We also came across how modern buildings are trying to capture the past. A example of this was the Shakespeare Globe located next to the River Thames. This building is a theatre with an open roof and no seating area on it’s ground floor. Therefore, trying to replicate the setting during the 1500–1600’s in order to maintain it’s history and rooted culture of theatre with the audience.

Another interesting observation that we had discussed was the HMS Belfast warship that was kept as Museum that can be entered by the public located next to the River Thames and Tower Bridge. This was kept in the water in order celebrate and remind everyone the different wars Britain had been involved in. This was interesting to me as it also allowed me to also think about the multiple military stations and creations that were involved in creating some of the buildings and land marks in London. For example London Bridge is able to open and close with operation in cases of terrorist attacks or any other conflicts. This allowed me to view London with in-depth perspective. Overall this trip gave me an insight of the connections from building to building when visiting both River Thames and Canary Wharf.
